“Write drunk, edit sober.”

                                                                         — Ernest Hemingway

Editing is a game for me. The satisfaction others get from, say, whittling wood or snapping jigsaw-puzzle pieces together is the same satisfaction I get from polishing raw copy.

Which is nice because I spend a lot of time doing it. I’ve been a full-time editor at the Los Angeles Times, at Sierra, and at a few startup publications. I’ve edited four books for Frommer’s (in addition to having written my own), I’ve cleaned up the academic works of a tick-expert entomologist, and I’ve improved the writings of a rabbi who was moving into secularism.

Got a written-word project you want to make shine? Consider hiring me. With a hat tip to Papa, I promise to be a teetotaler while I’m on your dime.
